THE DESIGNER

Five Years to Design and Build, Modern Home 1 is the Realized Dream of Owner Ken Rosenthal.

Ken is an inventor, MIT-educated physicist, professional magician, and prolific world traveler. Ken’s inventions have been featured at Tokyo Disneyland and many international hotels and retailers.

Lifelong friends with magician David Copperfield, Ken was inspired by their shared work to bring magic and creativity to the world. In designing Modern Home 1, Ken and David toured many professional trade shows, including the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), the NAHB International Builders' Show, HD Expo, and EXHIBITORLIVE, in search for new products and creative ideas.

Modern Home 1 displays Ken’s inventions and collections of breakthrough technologies, colorful LED lighting systems, magic items, and curated international art.

“Patents and magic are actually quite similar—with patents an inventor creatively combines electronics, materials, chemicals, and moving parts to hopefully create a new commercial product. With magic, a performer creatively combines cards, coins, dove, and boxes to creatively create an illusion for entertainment—THE CREATIVE PROCESS IS OFTEN THE SAME.”

— Ken Rosenthal

Levitating Waters

Ken’s most famous invention, Levitating Waters, has been featured in cinema, five-star spas, museums, high tech custom homes and even on yachts.

And you can experience the magic of Levitating Waters on earth—no ride on Sir Richard Branson’s or Jeff Bezos’s spacecraft necessary!

Cinema

Levitating Waters inspired the water illusion in the 2016 blockbuster '‘Now You See Me 2.” In this NBC Today Show interview, David Copperfield—who served as a co-producer and consultant on the film—revealed the secret behind this technology.

At the 2:25 mark, hear as David references Ken and the wagon-wheel effect that inspires his illusion.

Tokyo Disneyland

Featured at Tokyo Disneyland for ten years, Levitating Waters performed five times per day for thousands of guests. The installation featured three 18-inch magical streams. It was an even more popular attraction at the park than the Michael Jackson 3D film!

Las Vegas

Levitating Waters was featured at the Quarks Bar at the Las Vegas Hilton for five years. Two UL NSF-approved units at end of Star Trek Exhibit with custom non-carbonated beverage (Captain Kirk ice tea was $25!), and according the head of Food and Beverage at LV Hilton: “The most profitable and fun restaurant appliance I have seen.”

Hong Kong

A 48 computer-controlled 8-foot-high Levitating Waters display has been featured at the Hong Kong Museum of Science for over fifteen years on its main level. The droplets can be programmed to appear in different colors, and as though moving in different directions. Imagine blue droplets rising while red or green droplets levitate and crystal clear 10 carat GIA diamond like D color droplets dance or bounce—all at the same time. Droplets can also change shape to many unique water forms, even undulating solid streams which appear to rise but without internal tubes.
